Alright, friends. I've quit my soul-sucking day job and got my previously dead laptop fixed. So I'm back. Sort of. Either way, I've been meaning to get the word out about a particularly awesome album.

Yes, I'm talking about the mighty Cara Neir. Though I've been following this Texan duo (and the works of multi-instrumentalist Garry Brents) for many years, I've been more than elated to see the likes of Pitchfork, The Needle Drop, and more championing Chris Francis and Garry Brents's aggressive-yet-beautiful hardcore/black metal/screamo hybrid. Portals to a Better, Dead World is a tortured beast, but not in black metal's usual brand of isolated misanthropy, rather an explosion of emotion; vocalist Chris Francis's lyrics expressing disappointment in humanity, the combined struggle, introverted thoughts on religion, all related beautifully with Garry Brents's dedicated balance of melodic emotion and unbridled rage. This is the next step I was looking for as a successor to 2011's Stagnant Perceptions; a further melding and solidifying of Cara Neir's dichotomous existence, and it is perfect.
